John K Simpsons Couch Gag
Hey Everyone
Well... we're still waiting here on the west coast, but the John K Simpsons couch gag has aired on the east coast now, and I can't contain it anymore....
John Kedzie and I have been working on this couch gag along with John Kricfalusi and Tommy Tanner for the past few months!
Kedzie did all of the CG modeling, the brain animation, and all the tech-guy editing stuff. Tommy and I were assistant animators and worked on inbetweening, clean-up, ink and paint. I also helped paint a couple of the CG models.
Hope you guys liked it, it was awesome working on this! Pretty bitchin' first job out of school!

And Then Something Terrible Happened
Well... I'm having a shitty week.
I got a flu after going into my first day of work.
I have mystery bills from Chicago piling at my door... Stop billing me for services I no longer have! Ugh!
And now... Picassa (a site I've never logged into) has somehow deleted ALL of my blogger photos. So... I'm slowly going through old posts and replacing the photos. Sorry for the inconvenience, they'll all get fixed eventually as I have the time and find the files.

Stout Trout Background Copy
Hey guys, update time:
Kedzie and I are working with John K. on some tech support and CG experiments for a project hes currently working on!
Kedzie is doing some CG modeling (might post some progress soon, so check it out if he does!), and I've been working on making a good brush set for painting some classic looking animation backgrounds.
To help me get the right brushes and to start learning about John K.'s style, he suggested that I do some copies of old animation backgrounds and golden book illustrations. I decided to start with something more "simple" and work my way up... but even simple is pretty difficult when you actually turn your brain on and try to figure out why and how the original artist did what he did! It took me awhile to start to understand the colors and shapes, but I think I'm getting there, and starting to understand brush stroke placement.
My copy turned out a bit more stiff (and maybe a little over-worked?) compared to the original, but I think that has a lot to do with this being my first attempt and my working suuuuper slow to try and understand everything. I'll keep doing a few of these each week to help me get faster and understand the color, shapes, and textures of this style.
I really liked making the tree in the foreground, I think I'll be stealing some of those techniques for my personal work!
So anyway, sorry for the book of explanation... heres a BG copy from Yogi Bear "The Stout Trout"
EDIT:
Below is the original, so that you can see what I was working off of. I kinda messed the mountains up composition wise... oops!

Lolita Commission
Hey Guys!
New commission finished up last night! This one was for one of my friends over at DeviantArt who requested a brunette lolita pin up in a green, lacy dress
I tried some new techniques on this one, namely paying more attention to my line quality and not fidgeting the "paint" around so much, and I really like the results! Will be trying some more like this in the future :)

Playdate APS Credits
Today is the big screening! All our efforts shown to Chicago :D I can't even begin to explain how awesome it is to see the tiny spark of and idea that I pitched last fall turn into this amazing animation!
Here is some more art from Playdate... I painted these credits using some awesome caricatures that a classmate sketched up as reference :)
